timescale can be used without devmode
The timescale
console variable (from !1783; "Uncapped") can be used to speed up or slow down time. It's properly synchronised in online multiplayer, and counts as a "cheat" online that can only be set by the server host.
However, it can be used in single player and even Record Attack/NiGHTS Mode without devmode
. Given that it's kind of cheat-y* to slow down time for precision platforming perfection, it'd make sense to make it a devmode
-exclusive command offline.
(In Record Attack/NiGHTS Mode, you have to set timescale
before starting, as the console is locked and bind
doesn't work there.)
Record Attack/NiGHTS Mode even saves timescale
into the replay and uses the replay's timescale
when playing it back (which means that you can't use it to fast-forward a replay). Ghosts don't de-sync if you use a different timescale
when starting a new record attack; they properly speed up/down to match your current timescale
.
* On that note, I'm not sure whether I should mark this issue as "confidential", so I marked it just in case.
