  • Ring shadows make CEZ2 lag? It shouldn't do anything to rings that aren't visible on-screen...

That's more like a meme point since I've never experienced performance issues with them. Steel mentioned performance issues in high res. and splitscreen.

  • Are there any comparison benchmarks? I just tested CEZ2 splitscreen at 1920x1200 looking out into the courtyard, and had around 27FPS with the current shadow selection whether I had shadows on or off. It could be an Intel vs AMD thing, since FF reported performance issues with slopes in general on AMD processors a little while ago... (I'm using a fifth-gen i7, which is Intel)

  • That said, it'd probably be a good idea to have a shadow-specific draw distance option. If enough shadows make it on-screen to cause performance problems, that might help the issue a bit.

I know this just closed, but I'd like to say that I like the cleaner more expandable code restructuring for setting shadowscale, but I don't like the removals

Yeah I'd rather not remove them either. Only one person has confirmed perfomance issues so far, so I'm thinking of making a cvar to only have shadows rendered for players for instance, since that's where it's most important.

Or just leave it to the shadow cvar.
