[Suggestion] Create toggle that prevents normal gameplay from overwriting RA records
The 2.2.12 merge request !1752 (merged), which allowed Record Attack emblems to be obtained during normal gameplay, also allowed normal gameplay to overwrite Record Attack records. I believe this is a problem for two reasons:
- Record Attack gameplay has some key differences from normal gameplay. In RA, the level must be completed in one attempt, checkpoints are removed, and extra life monitors are converted to point monitors.
- In the same patch, merge request !1749 (merged) was added, allowing saving while addons are loaded. This is a personal preference, but I like to keep my vanilla gamedata records vanilla. Being able to overwrite my legitimate vanilla records while playing as an addon character upsets me, and it's already happened.
In my opinion, a possible solution to this problem would be to create a boolean console variable that, when set to true, prevents normal gameplay from overwriting Record Attack records. (It would default to false.) However, I'm not sure whether it should be present in the options menu or not.
I'm also not sure if turning it on should prevent players from earning RA emblems in normal gameplay. Without such prevention, players might be confused if they go into the Record Attack menu and see that they've earned the emblem, but there's seemingly no proof.
